Law enforcement deployed search dogs and special equipment in efforts to find Brian Laundrie in Florida’s Carlton Reserve, as seen on Wednesday, after his girlfriend Gabby Petito’s remains were found in Wyoming on Sunday.
“We deployed numerous resources and we are trying to cover every acre in this reserve,” said a police agent participating in the mission in harsh conditions.
K-9 units and special machinery could be seen on site joining the team search. The efforts include dive teams specialised in marine tracking and recovery of objects and bodies.
Laundrie, who police say is a person of interest in Petito’s death, went missing after officials started to investigate her disappearance. According to his parents, he failed to return from a hike at the Carlton Reserve on September 14.
The couple had been travelling together in their van until Laundrie returned home without Petito on September 1. The two had interactions with police after reported altercations, but no charges were filed. Petito’s parents reported her missing on September 11. The coroner examining her remains ruled her death a homicide.
