Kiev’s Pechersky District Court postponed the initial hearing of the treason case against former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. This was announced by the court secretary in the courtroom on Monday.

The judge was in the deliberation room for almost five hours. Finally, the secretary arrived and said that the verdict would be announced at 14:00 local time (13:00 CET, 12:00 GMT) on January 19.

Ruptly footage shows the politician leaving the courthouse, chatting with supporters, and then leaving the courthouse grounds.

Poroshenko returned to Ukraine earlier on Monday on a flight from Warsaw.

He faces treason charges over his alleged involvement in financing separatist fighters in eastern Ukraine via the illegal sale of coal during his time in office. The ex-president says the charges are politically motivated.
