The earthquake that struck on Monday, followed nine hours later by another devastating quake, has left a complete path of destruction.  

The combined death toll in Turkey and Syria from Monday’s earthquake is at least 28,000, but the death toll is feared to double in the next days. 

Buildings can be seen demolished to the ground, with others barely standing as rescue efforts continue to find survivors.  

Rescue teams are using thermal cameras to locate signs of life while others dig through rubble, in a land that opened right under their feet.
