Non-working days introduced by Russian authorities in an attempt to curb the COVID-19 infection rates came to an end in Moscow on Sunday.

Residents walked through the city centre in autumnal weather, chatting and purchasing take-away food items and drinks from hospitality venues.

The non-working period started on October 28 with most businesses and services open to the public as well as schools and kindergartens suspending their operation.

Higher and secondary vocational education institutions continued functioning remotely, while the capital’s restaurants and cafes were only able to operate a take-away and delivery service.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Wednesday that due to the stabilisation of COVID-19 cases trends in Moscow, the authorities would not prolong the non-working period beyond November 7.
