‘Miami Building Collapse: Remaining Structure DEMOLISHED to Make Way for Search Effort’

The remainder of a collapsed tower block in Surfside near Miami has been demolished to aid search efforts.

A portion of the Miami Beach condominium complex was left standing after two-thirds of the 12-storey structure caved in.

Reasons for the demolition are two-fold: first, to open up new areas of the pile for search teams.

Concerns had also been raised over their safety with a tropical storm fast-approaching Miami.

The 40-year-old Champlain Towers South in Surfside collapsed on 24 June at around 1.20am.
