A huge fire burned stacks of pallets in a commercial yard and buses parked in a nearby lot early Friday in Compton, California.
The blaze erupted before dawn and created a massive column of smoke that was visible across Los Angeles.

Authorities say the fire may have begun in an alley and the cause is still under investigation, but it did not appear to be suspicious.

More than 100 firefighters and 26 fire engines responded to the fire, which was contained about three hours later but was not extinguished.
