Ruptly is live from outside the Beijing Continental Hotel on Sunday, February 13, as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) holds a hearing on Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva’s doping case.

The International Testing Committee (ITC) released a statement confirming Valieva had provided a sample containing the banned substance trimetazidine during the 2022 Russian Figure Skating Championships in Saint Petersburg on December 25.

The appeal is part of an urgent hearing convened by CAS, which will decide whether 15-year-old Valieva will be able to compete in her next event scheduled for Tuesday.

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) clinched the gold medal in the figure skating team event at the Beijing Winter Olympics on Monday, when Valieva performed a manoeuvre that has never before been successfully landed at the Winter Olympic Games, the quadruple jump, twice.
