Security forces have dispersed the crowd of protesters attempting to storm a local administration building in Aktobe on Wednesday.

Shots and smoke from stun grenades could be heard and seen on the footage. There is no official information available on the injuries amount protesters or police officers.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev released a video message on Tuesday in which he urged protesters against the fuel price increase not to follow the calls of ‘destructive individuals’ and not to commit illegal actions.

The authorities also announced it was restoring price caps on liquefied petroleum gas to stop the rallies.

Following the protests Tokayev accepted the resignation of the country’s government, which will continue performing its duties until a new cabinet of ministers is formed.
