As the hurricane Apollo touched land in Sicily, coastal areas flooded and streets turned into waterways, as seen in footage shot in Syracuse on Friday.
Fire fighters started using inflatable boats to navigate on the temporary water canals.
Local reports suggest at least three people have already died as a result of the floods. Cities such as Catania and Syracuse have seen their downtown areas flooded.
The authorities suggested the population to remain in safety and avoid any unnecessary trips.
