Former MP and Oscar-winning actress Glenda Jackson has died aged 87.

Glenda won the Academy Award for Best Actress twice, for Women in Love in 1970 and A Touch of Class in 1973.

Glenda was a Labour MP for Hampstead and Highgate from 1992 to 2015. An outspoken defender of the welfare state, she credited her opposition to Thatcherism as the reason she went into politics.

Glenda then returned to acting, winning a Bafta in 2020.

Glenda Jackson died at her home in London following a brief illness, with her family by her side.
