Travellers faced disrupted travel schedules on Thursday at Berlin’s Hauptbahnhof central railway station as train drivers began their third nationwide strike.

The train drivers, represented by the GDL Trade Union, are undergoing a dispute over pay with the railway operator Deutsche Bahn.

Strike action began in the early hours of Thursday and is scheduled to run until early on Tuesday.

SOT, Alina, Traveler (German): “We’ve been here in Berlin for a week now, and it’s pretty stressful, we’ve been thinking the whole time whether we should go earlier or whether we should just take an earlier train because it’s just stupid for us, especially since we actually wanted to drive at night when there were three of us, we’re only 18, we three had to spend four hours at the train station, that’s a bit stupid as a girl.”

SOT, Asma, Traveler (German): “Well, I am affected, but I think I support it and I don’t mind if I go home a little later, I have to go to Paris and that’s not a problem. I also think it’s important that they go on strike.”

SOT, Nils Wilsbusch, Traveler (German): “Yes, I am strongly affected, because it feels like the train is canceled every half an hour, it is now the fifth time that I have had to take another train and it is stressful to be honest, I hope that they will slowly come to an agreement at some point.”
