A four-seater Robinson R44 helicopter crashed into the forest in Buchen, in the Baden-Wurttemberg’s Neckar-Odenwald district on Sunday, killing at least three people on board.

According to the police, the helicopter had come from the east and fell into woods near the county road at around 1 pm local time (11:00 GMT) for an as of yet unknown cause, leaving behind a completely destroyed wreck.

“At the moment, research into the causes and, above all, the securing of evidence is underway. My colleagues are now represented here in large numbers, we are now trying to find out exactly what happened or what led to this crash,” Police Spokesperson Carsten Diemer told reporters.

Specialists of the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation Braunschweig were called to the crash site to help with further investigations.
