Hundreds took to the streets of Berlin on Saturday to protest the eviction of the alternative living project ‘Kopi 137,’ scuffling with police officers in the process.

The protest started at the Rigaerstr, in front of the former project Liebig34, which was evicted a year ago, and finished in front of the Kopi one, where fireworks were set off and banners were held.

Various Berlin left-wing organisations announced on Friday that the Kopi building in the Mitte neighbourhood was to be cleared by October 15 following a court deadline.

The building is one of the last left-wing autonomous housing projects. Thirty residents have been living on the trailer site for 20 years.
