Georgia: US and NATO soldiers take part in "Agile Spirit" NATO drills near Tbilisi

On Monday US and NATO Marines took part in the alliance’s ‘Agile Spirit 2021’ military drills alongside a company of Georgian infantry soldiers, as well as 13 other countries at Senaki air base near Tbilisi.

“Agile Spirit’ 21 is a 10th generation of the ‘Agile Spirit’ exercise, which originally started as a bilateral exercise with the US and Georgia, and has grown into a multinational joint exercise that now includes 15 countries, thousands of soldiers, all participating to build readiness and interoperability. It takes place via a brigade command post exercise and battalion-level live-fire exercises throughout Georgia. The focus is to improve our training with our partner nations to practice, to share best practices to build interoperability among our equipment, our people, and our processes with the result of being better prepared to respond to any crisis that arises with our partner nations,” explained exercise co-director and US army representative Christopher Marshall.

The exercise involves a total of 700 US Marines and takes place on the country’s training ranges in Senaki, Vaziani, and Orfolo on the outskirts of Tbilisi.

The Agile Spirit drills have been held annually since 2011. This year’s ‘Agile Spirit’ 2021 is being held from July 26 to August 6.
