First Murder Hornet Nest in the USA Tracked Down By Experts in Washington State

A nest of so-called murder hornets has been discovered in the USA for the first time.

Experts hunted down the nest in Blaine, Washinton state, by capturing some of the insects and fitting them with tracking devices.

Native to the tropical South and East of Asia, it’s unclear how they travelled to the country, although sightings began late last year.

These insects deliver painful stings and can spit venom, but they’re rarely fatal for humans.

They’re a bigger threat to the honeybees farmers rely on to pollinate their crops. A small group of hornets can devastate a honeybee hive in a matter of hours.
