‘Dramatic Aftermath as 10 Rockets Hit Iraq Military Airbase Hosting US Troops’

At least 10 rockets were fired at an Iraqi military base that hosts US-led coalition troops on Wednesday.

It was not immediately known if there were any casualties at the Al-Asad airbase.

Spokesman Colonel Wayne Marotto said the rockets struck at 7:20am.

No one has claimed responsibility, but Iran-backed militias are suspected.

The air base was last attacked in January 2020 by Iranian missiles avenging Qasem Soleimani.

It was the first attack since the US struck Iran-aligned militia targets along the Iraq-Syria border in February.

The attack comes two days before a scheduled visit from Pope Francis to Iraq.
