The FIS Ski Jumping Continental Cup and FIS Nordic Combined Continental Cup began on Saturday in Zhangjiakou, one of the three venues to hold Chinese Winter Olympics 2022.

50 athletes from 11 countries participated the ski jumping competition, whilst 34 athletes from 13 countries entered the Nordic Combined championship.

Although the competitions were held without spectators, Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics spokesperson Yang Nan’nan explained that various simulated tests were carried out in hopes to control the spread of COVID-19 at future events.

“We have simulated the actual game with spectators including journalists, and have tested their positions, the personnel arrangement and contingency plan,” said Yang.

In addition to testing, China will not open its borders to foreign visitors for the Olympic Games, and will only allow Chinese residents to attend.
