EU leaders and heads of neighbouring states arrived in Brussels on Wednesday at the start of the 6th Eastern Partnership Summit.
The Eastern Partnership countries, a group of six neighbouring states, present at the summit include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko was noticeably missing from the talks, with France, Germany and Ukraine expected to discuss the situation with Russia.
French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met on the sidelines of the summit.
President of the European Council and summit host Charles Michel reportedly sat down with the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan late on Tuesday to discuss deescalating tensions after a recent flare-up in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
