Flags were flying at half-mast at government offices in Algiers on Thursday, as the country mourns for 69 people killed after wildfires ravaged many regions in Algeria last week.
Algerian Civil Defence statement said that firefighters are extinguishing “92 fires across 16 states” “37 fires in Tizi Ouzou, 15 in El Tarf, 11 in Bejaia, 8 in Jijel and 4 in Souk Ahras.”
According to the latest toll announced by authorities on Wednesday, 28 soldiers were among the dead after they attempted extinguishing fires.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared three days of national mourning starting from Thursday.
The Interior Ministry in turn, accused “criminal hands” of setting fires that led to great losses in forests, cultivated areas and human losses.

We have mercy on our dead brothers in the Kabylie region.”

Here in the region where we live in Algiers, three convoys were sent to the Kabylie region, carrying all the requirements after fires. In the end, we deeply mourn the catastrophe that occurred in the Kabylie region and its neighbouring regions”.
